pswa83 got a reaction from Tafollita in How to Prepare for a USCIS Biometrics Appointment
now that some have received notice that USCIS has received the application, the next step is to wait for the biometrics appointment.
this first website explains how to prepare for the appointment.
http://www.legallanguage.com/legal-articles/uscis-biometrics/
i found it useful and hopefully some one you do too. maybe it will settle some nerves about what to expect for the biometrics.

pswa83 got a reaction from stolenlacs in Looking For Job
any important key to job hunting is to follow up on the job applications and resumes that you have sent. call about 2 days after you filled out the application or sent a resume and simply state your name and that you were just touching base on the application you filled out or the resume you dropped off. if you have the time and the places are local, try going in person with a resume and asking to see the manager and introduce yourself and ask if they will take your resume. a lot of the times, filing out a job application online just sends the application into the human resource black hole and not to the individual store you want to work out.
so put yourself out there and remember that it is a very competitive job market. it's not only us looking for work but so many others as well.

Gino don't lose hope. I also had a hard time finding a job in my field. I would suggest applying for entry level positions at businesses or companies where you eventually want to work in finance?
Then once you are hired there work your way up.
Keep applying and when you go to interviews always sound passionate about the position and let them know you want to grow in the company using your skills. Good companies like people who want to work their way up.

pswa83 got a reaction from Dreamer3oh3 in Do You Carry???
if you already have a state ID or DL, then there is no need for you to carry your EAD with you at any time. only when you are offered and accept a job offer, and doing the initial paperwork for the job will you need to show your EAD.
there have been too many people who have lost their EADs because they carry it around with them. one SHOULD NEVER, EVER carry their EAD and SSN with them. if they are lost or stolen you will need to pay the $380 fee again in order to get another one.
also, if you do lose your SSN, you need to put a hold on it with the SSA in order to assure that no one else can use it.

pswa83 got a reaction from Dreamer3oh3 in If Denied ...
if you get denied, first you need to make sure the reason why. if it was an admin error on part of the USCIS, then one can apply and will not have to pay the $465 again
however, if one is denied and it reason was the fault of the applicant (lack of evidence or such) then one can reapply but would still need to pay the $465 again.
what is best, is to make sure that you have all the main requirements of DACA met. remember that you can not use affidavits for the main requirements. one can use affidavits to cover small gaps of time within the 5 year period between 2007 to 2012.
even if it takes a while, it is always better to send as a complete evidence package as possible to avoid receiving a RFE. there have been new reports that people have used video gaming logs such as from XBOX as evidence. so take the time to look into every avenue possible in gathering evidence.

pswa83 got a reaction from Dreamer3oh3 in Petition For Alien Relative While Going Through Daca
seeing how the cases and categories are 2 different things, they would have no barring on each other.
i have an approved I-130 (through my mother) and it didnt affect DACA in any way. help or hurt.
what DACA may help with, depending on how you entered the country is once your approved for DACA, you can apply for AP, leave the country and LEGALLY re-enter the US. this will help because it shows you LEGALLY entered the country on such and such date.
have you placed any service request or called to find out what the hold up is?

pswa83 got a reaction from stolenlacs in May Numbers And A Question.
no. those numbers approval and denial numbers do not say when those applicant applied. they could have been august or september applicants. also, i highly doubt that those who just applied (april thru june) will be approved within the nxt 2 months seeing how it takes about a month now to get a bios appt.
there are some cases that are approved fast and others have a long wait.
the only certain thing is that nothing is certain. every case is different. every agent works at a different pace. every service center is different. RFE's affect cases. background checks affects cases.

pswa83 reacted to JoseG in Ca Id And Ssn
It's okay.
Your ID and DL are supposed to be for 2 years only because that's how long your EAD is valid for, except some people have been given a full term ID and DL.
SSN numbers are issued at random, so it doesn't matter what it starts with.

pswa83 got a reaction from Bsosa in What Schools Can We Attend?
i would check with the school you want to attend. there are some private schools that will not even let DACA approved applicants apply. so check the schools requirements and when asking the school, just say you that have a valid SSN and have legal presence in the US. also if asked if you have a student visa, say no and that you do not need one. another good idea, would be to talk to an actual admissions rep because usually the first person you talk to in the admissions office will not have a lot of knowledge about DACA. talking to an admissions rep will let you get more information from a better source. talking to a financial aid rep too would be a good idea because as DACA applicants we can not receive funds from FAFSA. if even a school ask you to fill one out, that is ok, because a lot of the times, what will happen is that FAFSA will send a letter saying you are not eligible for FAFSA because of your status but this will allow the school to find other financial aid options for you.
if you are in CA, you qualify for in state tuition if you attended a CA high school and graduated from a CA high school. the CA Dream Act allows undocumented student to apply for financial aid.

pswa83 reacted to JoseG in Can Uscis Take Their Decision Back ??!!!!
That's normal. Your case will update 4 times after approval.
Card Production - Your EAD card is put into production.
Post Decision Activity - Approval Notices are sent out.
Card Mailed Out - USCIS puts your EAD in the mail.
USPS Pick Up - USPS pick ups your EAD and issues you a tracking number.

pswa83 got a reaction from Heisenberg2 in question about California DL
in CA, you do not have to take a drivers ed class in order to get your permit if you are over 18.
the best way to do it is, make an appointment online for the DMV. study the handbook front to back. most of the questions are common sense but study nonetheless. the day of your appointment, arrive about 10 to 15 mins early so that you can fill out the form before you get in line. once you're in line, they will take your application. give them your EAD and SSN when they ask for it. they will give you the test and point you to an another where you can take the test.
once you're done, they will grade it right there and then. if you pass, then you will get your permit. even though you're over 18, having a permit DOES NOT mean that you can drive alone. you will need to have somone who has a DL and over 25 in the car with you when you drive. and yes, it says that in the handbook.
you will also need to take a vision test. it's simple and basically the same as at the eye doctor. if you wear glasses normally then they will ask you to take the vision test without your glasses first and then with your glasses. if they determine that you need your glasses while you drive, your permit and DL will state say. and yes, if a cop pulls you over and you are not wearing your glasses, they can give you a ticket for that. most times, they will give you a warning, if they say something about it.

Sorry to hear that .... but like pswa and Rawf said do some research, maybe your state does offer some kind of financial aid for you, or maybe there's a waiver or something
The Assembly Bill 540 is only for the state of CA.

pswa83 got a reaction from Heisenberg2 in College Tuition After Daca
even though you have lived in the US for a long time, what matters is the paper aspect of everything. techincally you have only been legally presence in the US since your EAD was made. there are a lot of states that will grant in state tuition to DACA applicants but only if they meet other requirements first. and there are some schools that wont even let DACA applicants apply to the school.
does the school you are trying to apply to know that you have a US high diapolma? here in CA, if one atteneded high school for 3 years in CA and graduated from a CA high school then they qualify for in state tuition. now CA has the CA Dream Act which will allow student to apply for money for school.
i would do some research on what the school requires as residency, print it out and then make an appt with an admin rep and financial aid rep. sometimes when you talk to the people at the desk at the admin or registors office, usually they are students on a student work program and dont know much. so if you can do a little research make those appts and see what happens.
worse thing that happens, is that you have to wait a yr to pay residency tuition. in the mean time, see if you can take one class, that way when you register for more classes (when you're paying residency tuition) you are considered a return student and get into core classes sooner.

Indeed, Monster, LinkedIn, etc
Checked with my friends to see if they knew somebody anywhere...
Was referred to Job Hunters and sent my resume to three of them...met with one, and got an Temp-to-hire position at a great company...starting May 1st
I also use my School's Career Management Services Website to look for new opportunities: I have applied to 6 already, and I am confident I will get interviews in May...
Meanwhile, I just sit at home, read the FT, and watch CNBC...err day err day err day err day err day err day err day err day...started from the bottom and all that jazz...
